El agua del acuario o de la naturaleza tiene condiciones químicas o térmicas que varian de acuerdo al lugar.
Las especies de peces pueden tener distinta agua y debemos saber cómo hacer para que estas condiciones químicas del agua sean óptimas para ellos, pues de no serlas afectan directamente en la salud y tiempo de vida que tendrá el animal acuático. 
La variación química más común e importante es el PH o Potencial de hidrógeno.
Esta variación tiene un punto medio llamado ph neutro cuya graduación es 7 o PH 7.
De allí en más el agua puede ser más ácida bajando la graduación del PH (PH 6 ) o más alcalina teniendo un PH más alto ( PH 8).
Esta graduación se puede medir con test de tiras, en gotas, electrónico, etc..

En materia biológica o rocas se debe tener cuidado porque algunas son alcalinas y suben el ph así como caparazones marinas.

Tener peces en un PH inadecuado implica defensas inmunológicas bajas y que sean propensos a enfermarse o ser parasitados, es decir no vivírán todo lo que podrían vivir y vivirán mal.


Tener los peces en un mal PH es sinónimo de fracaso en un acuarista y de que tendrá problemas y peces en malas condiciones.

Para ello deben tener conocimiento de lo que es un Biotopo

Química del Nitrógeno:
